It's that time again! Time to swap products with a blog friend in the Magical Product Swap, hosted by Mrs. Stanford's Class. This time I was able to partner with Heidi of My (Not So) Elementary Life. She is such a sweetheart. I just LOVE her products. For the review, I received Heidi's Learning In a Winter Wonderland. It's a pack with 10 literacy centers, aimed at K-1 students. Here are some of my favorite aspects of the pack: - The content is awesome. 10 literacy centers! All I have to do is print, laminate, and cut. Voila!
- 92 pages ($6.00 on TPT... pretty sweet deal)
- It's beautifully made. No clip art squishing, everything matches, and it's so stinkin' cute.
- She includes blackline worksheets for students.... only the things that are meant to be laminated are in color! Hallelujah!
- All the activities are easy to understand, include clear directions (and answers), and are totally fun and engaging.
Click to see on TPT I thought I'd give you a little video tour so you can see how awesome it is for yourself.
Since Heidi and I swapped sort of late in the game (like literally two days ago), I didn't get a chance to print and laminate everything yet. I did pick two that I thought I'd try out this week! Here are some photos: I like to store my centers in 9x5.5 plastic bags. I can fold the recording sheets in half and stick the pieces in.... and SEE everything! :) | The "Beginning Sound" activity | The cards are nice, large, and the graphics print beautifully! | Heidi's "Real or Nonsense" word activity | Ice chunks with the words... they're about 2in x 2in. I love that she includes so many cards. You can adapt it for a shorter activity if you want! Or how about an assessment? :) | Recognize that polar bear? ;) Also, check out that hack job on the corner. I swear I couldn't cut a rounded corner to save my life. I bought one of those cutter things, but can't find it. | I played along. :) Love it! | Getting fancy with the camera angles. Haha. | So what do you think? Something you could use?! I love it and will definitely get some use out of it in the coming weeks. If I was still teaching K, then I'd honestly use the heck out of all of them. They are perfect for K-1! :) Head on over to Heidi's blog to check her out... or better yet, head on over to TPT and grab yourself a copy of this! You'll love it. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to go and check out all the other product swaps on Mrs. Stanford's link up! There are a TON of great reviews. Maybe you'll find something new. :) Thanks to The 3AM Teacher for the button!
Like the button I made? :) I'm linking up with DeAnne over at First Grade and Fabulous! She's hosting a great linky all about FOOOOOD!!!! I absolutely love Thanksgiving. It's been a few years since we've been able to make it home for Thanksgiving with our family (Christmas is when we take our Winter trip home), so I'm excited that next year we'll be able to partake! :) When I think of Thanksgiving food, a few things come to mind: Sister Shubert. German Potato Salad. Grandpa's turkey bag. Let me explain... Sister Schubert Rolls Let me tell ya. This woman is amazing. If you've never had Sister Schubert rolls, then you are missing out. They can be found in the frozen food section and will knock your socks right off. My family has made them for Thanksgiving for the past several years... and Christmas. That's saying something because all the other dished are homemade. Rolls? Nope. They come in a package that looks like this: Directions: - Unwrap
- Put in oven
- Take out when golden & buttery
- Devour immediately
I have no clue if they're a regional product, but I would pay to have some shipped to me if I couldn't find them. It's like putting butter-covered love in your mouth. Omiword. You gotta try. There has even been a Sister Schubert roll eating contest in my family. That's how much we love them. :) You can see more of her products and see where they're available here. | German Potato Salad My grandmother is German and I pretty much grew up loving any and all types of German food. Sauerkraut? Yep. She makes the most amazing German potato salad for just about any meal we have with them. It's easy to make, but it seems to always taste better when she makes it. :) You need: potatoes (plain ole shallots bacon italian dressing (homemade if possible) Directions:- Boil potatoes.
- While potatoes are boiling, fry some bacon until it's nice and crunchy. Break/chop into tiny pieces. Keep the juice.
- Dice shallots. I usually have about a handful of diced shallots for a large mixing bowl full of potatoes. You judge.
- Once the potatoes are done, peel and cut them into bite-size chunks.
- While the potatoes are still warm, mix italian dressing and bacon oil together. Drizzle over potatoes & mix in bits of bacon and shallots.
- Salt and pepper if if you want
- Serve warm.
The recipe is pretty easy to adjust. Put as much bacon, dressing, and shallots as you want. Don't get me wrong. We still have mashed potatoes, but this is always there too. I LOOOOVE it. There are usually fights over who gets the last scoop. I don't have a photo, but it looks pretty much like this: Photo from Goodbye House Hello Home | Grandpa's Turkey Bag This sounds totally weird. Grandpa's turkey bag? My grandpa is always in charge of the turkey. He gets it ready, cooks it, then carves it. His secret?
A bag.
I know many of you have seen these before, but they're awesome. You basically put your turkey in a bag, shove whatever you want inside (butter, stuffing, vegetables, etc.) put the bagged-turkey in a deep pan, then cook it like normal.
It's like your turkey is wearing one of those sweat-running-bag-suits while it cooks. It keeps all the juices and goodness inside. The turkey will be so moist and perfect when it's done.
Sounds weird, but it's awesome.
You can find those bags at your grocery store around the other plastic bag items.... or with the Thanksgiving stuff. | I hope you enjoyed my three "reipes" for ya! I know only one of them is a recipe, but these are my most favorite things to eat for Thanksgiving. Well, these.... and pumpkin pie... mashed potatoes... gravy... green bean casserole... sweet potato casserole... Ok. I'm done. And starving now. Head on over to link up with DeAnne and see some more amazing recipes. Have a great day! | |
Shew! I'm exhausted! We just got back to the real world after a week of entertaining a good friend who came to visit... and six days in Berlin and Prague! It was such a great trip! We got to see a ton of great things, have some delicious food, and my camera literally did not stop. I have about 9 bazillion photos to go through, so I'll add some soon! I wanted to link up to show you what I got during the giant TPT sale! Math Work Stations Katie, the Queen of the First Grade Jungle. has this a.m.a.z.i.n.g. pack of sports-themed math centers. I saw it on another blog and just had to have it. Do I teach math right now? No. However, I do plan on getting back into a regular primary classroom once we move back to the states. I'm planning way ahead right? :) Thanks Katie! See on TPT | Word Work The Inspired Apple has these great word work activity sets that I just love! Our first sound coming up is short A, so I had to get this set to see if it would fit into our curriculum. I'm pretty sure I will be buying the rest of her sets because this one is great! Simple, easy directions, and lots of varied activities for the short a. Thanks Abby! See on TPT | Common Core Galore Confession: I actually didn't get this during the sale. I got it a couple of weeks ago. They're common core checklists for LA and Math... from What the Teacher Wants. I bought the 1st & 2nd grade sets. Although I don't use common core over here in Switzerland, I really like to stay on top of it so I won't feel like an alien when we return. Does that tell you which grade I'm hoping for? Haha. Our district was implementing it just as we moved. :( It's great and I will totally be able to use it when we get back! See on TPT | Word Family Book I snagged this great product from The Teacher Wife. It has 60 word families to choose from and even blanks to make your own! I will definitely be using this for my beginner EFL students. :) See on TPT | Literary Genres Hope King, of 2nd Grade Shenanigans, has this amazing literary genres pack that is really versatile. I like it because it's simple, well made, and makes exploring the different genres fun! See on TPT | Pumpkin Journal Cara Carroll has this great 12 page mini pumpkin journal. I love it because it's easy to use and contains several great inquiry based investigations for K-1 kiddos. I always made my own little journals, but this one is perfect! Now if I can just get a hold of some cheap pumpkins over here this fall... hmmmm. Seriously. Our medium sized one was about $25 last year. Crazy. See on TPT | So, that's what I was able to get during the sale! I love them all. I just wish that I had gotten more time to browse through more shops! Planning vacation and entertaining takes up a lot of time! :) Want to link up with Blog Hoppin' and share what you got too? Head on over to check out what everyone else found... and love! Link Up! | Have a great week!
| | I mentioned it on FB before I left for my trip, but have you all checked out Mrs. Lemon's linky party? It's kind of awesome and fun. I'm learning so much about a lot of you and other great teachers! Basically, I give you a little more dirt on me. Head on over to Mrs. Lemon's blog to check out over 140 submissions... and find some more great teaching blogs to follow! Check it Out | 1. I live in Switzerland. Literally. The hubby and I will be here for another year and have already been living the European life for a year and a half. We moved here because of a 'once-in-a-lifetime-can't-pass-it-up' work opportunity he received. We've really enjoyed it and have learned so much about ourselves, other cultures, and the travel has been amazing. | 2. I don't like reading. Aaaaaa! {Gasp} A teacher who doesn't like reading! Blasphemy!
I enjoy reading blogs and anything to do with teaching, but you'll rarely find me commenting on how awesome a certain book is. I never let my students know, but it's the truth. Their teacher isn't a big reader.
I think it's because I have a short attention span and I was practically forced to read as a child via 'Accelerated Reader.' Don't get me started on it. I LOVED reading, up until about 4th/5th grade, when I was required to accumulate a bazillion points. I cheated, read tons of easy books, and my attitude towards casual reading has never been the same. Someone needed to give my teachers some PD on how to structure their AR program. 3. I'm married. This is the hubby. We've been together for 8 years and married for almost 5. He's such an amazing man and I'm so blessed to have him. He's my best bud. | 4. I love skiing. I've always loved water skiing, but my obsession for snow skiing has grown in the past year... maybe because we're within an hour of the Alps? I wouldn't consider myself to be an amazing skier, but I haven't broken anything yet. That's good enough right? | 5. I'm a mom... a fur mom. We have two adopted 'hybrids' (they don't like the word 'mut') that we absolutely adore. They are our children. They are furry, smelly, bad at times, and I love them to death. We didn't adopt them together, but they were both homeless and picked up by the puppy police while roaming the streets.
I highly suggest adoption if your wanting a dog. They are so sweet and it's been a blessing to be able to give them a home, faces to lick, and treats to eat. Can you imagine why these two faces would be on the street!? So sad. Rocco is on the left and Jackson on the right.
Rotten. Spoiled rotten. | 6. I love 'Teen Mom' There. I said it. Hi, my name is Ashley, I'm a 27 year old woman, and I love watching 'Teen Mom.' It's a guilty pleasure. I'm more of an HGTV, Bravo, TLC, Lifetime sort of gal, but I do tune into MTV when I notice my show is on. It's just so interesting, sad, angering, exciting, dramatic, trashy, etc. | 7. I just stopped biting my nails. Yes. I'm 27 and I have been a nail-biter my whole life. Someone once said... 'Oooo, you must have a bad relationship with your dad then. That's what that means.' No, I love my daddy. It's just a totally disgusting habit that I just recently kicked. I still get the urge, but I'm doing great! I've 'been clean' for two months now. Hahah... isn't that gross? 8. I'm scared of clowns & dolls. | Thank you Stephen King (and my babysitter when I was 6) for bringing this nightmarish character into my life. You'll never find me at a circus... I panic. Also, dolls creep me out. You know the real life-like ones? Like those American Girl dolls? I can't sleep or be alone in a room with one. I have to take them out of the room if I plan on getting any sleep. Scary stuff ladies and gents. | | | 9. I can triple curl my tongue. Click for Source Nope. Not my real mouth. I don't have a gap and am not interested in having a photo of my chops all over the internet. I can do this though! It's a hidden talent and apparently not everyone is able to do it, despite practicing. It's gross, weird, and so awesome. Can you do it?! Go to the mirror and try. Right now. | 10. I'm handy. I can change tires, a car battery, check my oil, install lighting/ceiling fans, roof a house, lay a patio, and construct any IKEA product in less than a minute. I consider myself to be a pretty good handy'woman.' I put together our guest room bunk beds... by myself while the hubby was at work. Yes. Bunk beds. I like putting together furniture and I like puzzles. My husband and I bought two identical storage units when we first moved and decided to race to see who could put theirs together the fastest. I won. Big time.
Although I don't foresee us living with IKEA furniture for the rest of our lives, I wouldn't mind the challenge. | Ok. That's it friends. I hope you enjoyed and learned a little. Also, I hope this doesn't deter any of you from the site. Hahaha! Have a great day and be sure to stop by Mrs. Lemon's site to check out some more posts like this!
